The word “defence” carries deep meaning—it signifies standing strong against harm to ensure safety and peace. Defence can take many forms; it can be physical or verbal. Sometimes, others rise to defend us, and at times, we must gather the strength to defend ourselves. Think of Lord Rama’s valiant stand against Lanka to rescue his wife—a timeless example of protection and duty. In our daily lives, we too defend our beliefs, values, and dignity in conversations, debates, or challenges.

Freedom and safety are, without a doubt, the cornerstones of a peaceful and fulfilling life. The land on which we rest today has witnessed countless acts of courage and sacrifice. Even now, our brave soldiers stand unwavering at the borders, facing harsh conditions, so that we can live without fear. Their dedication is a silent promise that our nation remains safe.

India takes immense pride in its diverse and disciplined defence organizations—the Army, Navy, Air Force, Border Security Force (BSF), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and National Service Scheme (NSS). Each of these forces plays a significant role in maintaining order, ensuring protection, and fostering the spirit of service among citizens.

Defence, therefore, is not confined to the battlefield. It reflects strength, responsibility, unity, and the deep commitment to safeguard our people and our nation’s integrity.
